What is ozone therapy?

Medical ozone is a particular form of oxygen. It is used in dentistry because it can reduce bacteria, viruses and fungi in the area being treated. Ozone does not replace any treatment that is actually needed — it can accompany it gently. The application itself is short and, as a rule, well tolerated.

When ozone can be used

Ozone is not a cure-all, but in some situations it can support treatment alongside it. Whether it makes sense in your case is something we establish together, honestly, beforehand.

How an ozone application works

The application is short, involves no contact and is as a rule well tolerated. This is how we go about it.

    The area concerned is cleaned and prepared as usual — for example after decay has been removed, or as part of gum treatment.

    The ozone is directed onto the treated area without contact. The application usually takes only seconds and is generally experienced as comfortable.

  • No. 4 · H3: Continuing the treatment

    The actual treatment then continues — the filling is placed, or the work on the gums is completed.

Ozone as a supporting measure is not part of the statutory health insurance catalogue, so it is invoiced privately under the German scale of fees for dentists (Gebührenordnung für Zahnärzte, GOZ). The treatment it accompanies — decay or gum treatment, for instance — is billed in the normal way.
